Writing from an Island

Hello everybody! I’m writing at the moment from the magic island of Chiloé. This is a place with so many stories, wonderful people and amazing landscapes!! I bet you can´t imagine how I have lived this couple of weeks here. You could only know that if you lived the same experience as me. I want to tell you a little of this adventure, so you can maybe dream about a beautiful place and a different life for a second.
I’m living on a small Island that belongs to Chiloé. The name of this island is Caucahué and it’s near Quemchi. There are only about 7 houses, no public lights, no streets, but there are people with big hearts and who always want to give you a smile. It was hard at first, I mean, to leave all the luxuries that I have at home in Santiago…to have a normal shower, cell-phone, internet, etc. Suddenly I had to learn how to make a fire for the old kitchen, because without that I couldn´t make tea or cook something, and that was also the only way to keep the house warm. When I wanted to buy something so simple like sugar or cigarettes I had to wait until the weather was not so bad, and then try that a boat could see me and could bring me to the nearest town, Quemchi. So it wasn’t easy, but it was fun and different and it makes me appreciate all the things that i have at home.
If you want to see beautiful places, to know mithological or witch stories, to speak with amazing people, to see the spectacular wood architecture of this people and to eat tasty seafood, curantos, milcaos, chapaleles, etc…then i recommend you visit Chiloé, and if you want to live for a time like an old pure chilote and really learn how these people have always lived, then go to live on the small island Caucahué or another small island near the main island of Chiloé.
